The Libyan Authority for Heritage and Wildlife serves as the national competent authority responsible for the protection of Libya’s cultural and natural heritage, the conservation of wildlife, and the safeguarding of biodiversity. Established pursuant to Prime Minister Decision No. (130) of 2024, the Authority leads national efforts in the fields of environmental and heritage protection. It officially commenced its operations on 19 May 2025 as the national institution mandated to develop policies and programs for the protection of environmental and heritage resources in accordance with modern institutional frameworks.
The Authority’s work is guided by Libya’s distinctive environmental and geographical significance, as the country represents a natural bridge between Mediterranean and desert ecosystems and a strategic migratory corridor for birds between Europe and Africa.
